The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of characters living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with musical numbers about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 moves, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
